Borough Market, Porters Race. Two barrows loaded with 4.5 cwt. (hundredweight) of fruit are used in a race from Borough Market on a five mile course to Guy's hospital where the fruit was then given to the hospital for distribution amongst its patients. Each of the two barrows had a team of ten men who took over in relays. The finish was a dead heat. Pictured, two members approaching the Elephant and Castle leg of the race, 7th August 1966.
