(Original Caption) Guatemalan President Assassinated. Guatemala City, Guatemala: President Carlos Castillo Armas (above) of Guatemala, was shot and killed last night by a member of the presidential palace guard detail who then killed himself. The soldier was identified as Romeo Sanchez. Castillo Armas, who led a successful revolution against the pro-Communist regime of Jacobo Arbenz Guzman in June, was elected constitutional president in the October of that year and was to have served until March, 1960. Vice President Luis Arturo Gonzalez to continue the anti-Communist policies of the slain president.
