GRANITE CITY, IL -NOV 04: In the shadow of the old Chain of Rocks Bridge, a man fishes near the rapids created by a low-water dam built by the Corps of Engineers in the 1960's. The bridge (which crosses the Mississippi River connecting Missouri and Illinois) was in service from 1929 to 1970 as was part of the Route 66 highway at one time. -Photo essay follows the Mississippi River from it's source at Lake Itasca, Minnesota to its end point 2,320 miles downstream at the Gulf of Mexico, 100 miles south of New Orleans.
