GERMANY - JUNE 09: Map of the Moon, published in four sections, by Wilhelm Madler (1794-1874) based on observations made by Johann Heinrich Beer (1797-1850). Titled 'Selenographia' this lunar map was the first accurate large-scale map of the Moon. This southwest quadrant was published in 1834 with an accompanying descriptive volume called 'Der Mond' (The Moon). This 38 inch lunar map was the only serious Moon chart available until the Moon map of Wilhelm Lohrmann (1796-1840) was published in 1878. (Photo by SSPL/Getty Images)
