Philippines evacuates people due to Mayon volcano eruption
ALBAY, PHILIPPINES: Rey Malaya dries his grains as Mount Mayon, the Philippinesâ most active volcano, continues to erupt in Albay, Philippines on June 13, 2023. More than 13,000 families living near six and seven kilometers from the center of the permanent danger zone around Mt. Mayon have been evacuated after the Philippinesâ most active volcanoes show signs of an imminent âhazardousâ eruption. In 2013, five hikers, including three Germans who ignored warnings and strayed near the volcanoâs summit, were killed when it erupted. Mayonâs most destructive eruption was in 1841, when an entire town was buried and 1,200 people killed. (Photo by Jeoffrey Maitem/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
