BANG KWANG CENTRAL PRISON, BANGKOK, THAILAND - 2004/03/26: The execution building at Bang Kwang Central Prison. Before the use of lethal injection, inmates were kneeled down and tied to a wooden cross, and the executer then shot them in the back with a burst of bullets from a machine gun. It was only in 2003 that Thailand changed the law and started to use lethal injection to carry out death sentences. While a new building is under construction, the old room was made for lethal injection and in December 2003, four inmates were executed. Bang Kwang is a maximum security prison; over 6,900 inmates are being kept under strict discipline, many of them chained with shackles around their wrists. About 30 inmates are sentenced to death.
