(Original Caption) The lastest fad among the league leading St. Louis Cardinals is eating sunflower seeds. Third baseman Mike Shannon (r) pours out a handful of the little nuggets for outfielder Roger Maris (l) in clubhouse prior to Cards-Reds game, 8/8. No one is sure who started the fad, but all of a sudden the whole team is craking the seeds with their teeth and munching on the tiny kernels. The world champion Red Birds, reminiscent of the colorful Gas House Gang, have a lot of fun playing baseball.
