Soga Goro Gallops Bareback to Oiso by Taiso Yoshitoshi

The two Soga brothers were orphaned when very young. While still teenagers, they succeeded in avenging their father by killing his murderer. At one point during their many adventures, Goro sensed that his brother needed him and galloped madly to his rescue. Yoshitoshi has caught the headlong movement in his wide, wet brushstrokes, including "flying white", spaces with the black caused by pressure opening up the brush, which the engravers and printers have managed to reproduce perfectly. | Located in: Private Collection.
