Amazon cattle farm - just before a rainstorm - stock photo

The picture was taken while driving on the state highway AM-010 on the afternoon of may 14, 2024, heading to Manaus, shortly before passing through the city of Rio Preto da Eva, known for its fruit cultivation, Brazil nuts, and also some cattle farming - all on a small scale in rural Amazonas. May usually marks the end of the rainy season, so it rains less frequently, but often with large thunderheads and heavy downpours, as the one brewing in the scene. The cattle usually seek shelter near trees, as lightning is common - a reason why many cattle farmers in the region leave some tall trees standing in the pasture. In this scene, the tree also happens to be the preferred perch for a flock of Great White Herons, or Egrets. Few birds are flying, as the rainclouds are about to burst, and much water seems certain.
