The flag of Missouri features three horizontal stripes of red, white, and blue. In the center of the flag is the state seal, which is encircled by a blue band containing 24 white stars, symbolizing Missouri's admission as the 24th state to join the Union. The state seal depicts a grizzly bear atop a scroll with the state motto, United we stand, divided we fall, and two smaller scrolls bearing the state's mottoes: Salus populi suprema lex esto (Latin for Let the welfare of the people be the supreme law) and E pluribus unum (Latin for Out of many, one). Above the seal is a red ribbon with the state motto in Latin, Qui transtulit sustinet (meaning He who transplanted sustains), which is also the motto of Connecticut. The flag's design is rich in symbolism, reflecting Missouri's history, values, and unity.
