Striking video shows destruction in Israeli settlement assaulted by Palestinian groups

BEERI, ISRAEL - OCTOBER 14, 2023: Anadolu Agency Video News (AAVN) videoed on Saturday (Oct. 14) the destruction in the Israeli settlement of Beeri located near the Gaza Strip. The settlement was one of the first places where Hamas fighters entered at the beginning of the conflict. Colonel of Search and Rescue Unit of Israeli Army Golan Vach was present in the region to conduct the security operations. "It's one thing to be surprised and we were surprised and I can tell you as I wear uniform for 31 years that we failed. The IDF failed in its mission to protect the citizens." Vach told AA. The ongoing conflict began when Hamas initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Flood against Israel on Saturday, a multi-pronged surprise attack including a barrage of rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel via land, sea, and air. Hamas said it was in retaliation for the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem and Israeli settlers’ growing violence against Palestinians. The Israeli military then launched Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas targets within the Gaza Strip. Israel's response has extended into cutting water and electricity supplies to Gaza, further worsening the living conditions in an area that has reeled under a crippling siege since 2007.
