ANZAC day marked at New Zealand Memorial in Canakkale
CANAKKALE, TÜRKİYE - APRIL 25, 2024: As part of commemorating the 109th anniversary of the Gallipoli Campaign, a ceremony was held at the New Zealand Memorial located at Chunuk Bair on the Gallipoli Peninsula on Thursday (April 25).
Participants in the "Anzac Day" event were welcomed with a ceremony called "Karanga" by the indigenous people of New Zealand, the Maori, which translates to "Welcome" in English.
The program began with a lament, followed by a moment of silence, and the playing of the Turkish National Anthem and the New Zealand National Anthem.
During the commemoration ceremony, New Zealand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Winston Peters, along with New Zealand's Ambassador to Ankara, Zoe Coulson-Sinclair, delivered speeches.
