Catching octopus in the Kanmon Straits - HD stock video

Catching octopus. Images taken on board a fishing vessel. Medium shot of an octopus pot being raised from the seabed with a winch. Medium shot of an octopus on the deck being put into a small net. The Kanmon Straits are the narrow body of water separating Honshu and Kyushu. For the fishermen in Fukuoka prefecture, the waters in the Straits are a source of the Common East Asian octopus (Octopus sinensis). The octopi caught here are prized for their firm flesh and flavor, particularly when served up as sashimi. The Straits provide plentiful prey for the cephalopods to feed on, while the swift currents prompt the development of large tentacles and suckers. July and August are the main fishing season for these creatures. They are caught with pot-shaped traps, which are placed on the seabed and then lifted the following day. The cephalopods will readily enter the pots as they like to conceal themselves in restricted spaces. There is no need to bait the traps.
