Brown interview SOT - I think all of us have choices and you can take sometimes an easier option, but if you take the tougher option, you're then on a course that is not easy to return from / I think from my point of view, I started off as a lecturer, somebody who wanted to be a university teacher, somebody who wanted to spend more time writing, and I've ended up as a politician / I was annoyed and angry at the poverty and unemployment I saw when I was growing up, I felt the only way you can do something about it is by some form of social action, that led me into politics, but you see, if you take the characters in my book, and I can't compare myself because I am in awe of the people I am writing about because they are such great figures, for almost all of them, there were huge turning points in their lives and when they make a choice it is sometimes a choice that puts their life completely at risk
