Sydney Celebrates 2022 Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - MARCH 05: People make their way to the 44th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade on March 05, 2022, in Sydney, Australia. The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade usually happens along Oxford Street but is being held at the Sydney Cricket Ground for the second year due to COVID-19 restrictions and contact tracing requirements. The Sydney Mardi Gras parade began in 1978 as a march and commemoration of the 1969 Stonewall Riots of New York. It is an annual event promoting awareness of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues and themes. The 2022 Mardi Gras festival theme is 'UNITED WE SHINE'.
