Spanish people protest government's education reform

MADRID, SPAIN - NOVEMBER 22: Protesters in Spanish capital Madrid took to the streets by cars on Sunday, Nov. 22, against a controversial education reform, which divided the country into two. In a protest against the left-wing coalition government's proposed reform, the protesters waved yellow flags from their cars and demanded annulment of the reform. According to the reform that has sparked a political dispute among the parties, Spanish does not have to be the principal language at schools in addition to other changes in language and gender-related issues. According to Spanish El Pais, the new education law "promotes gender equality as a transversal issue in all areas of study. Schools will be encouraged to highlight the contributions of women and men in areas where they are not typically represented." The reform was approved by the parliament with the support of political parties in regions like Catalonia, and the Basque, and was sent to the Senate. If approved by the Senate, the reform will enter into force. (Footage by Burak Akbulut/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
